SEAW Disaster Preparedness & Response Committee

Who we are?

We are SEAW’s committee that is collaborating on the development of WAsafe, Washington State’s post-disaster response program for volunteer engineers, architects, and building inspectors. We organize and teach ATC-20/45 classes and the WAsafe program.
We have also:

•Helped pass legislation that protects organizations like SEAW who provide volunteers for post-disaster response.

•Participated in the Governor’s Resilient Washington Subcabinet.

•Assisted with Seattle Fault Scenario.

•Assisted with Cascadia Rising subduction zone earthquake and tsunami exercise.

•Participated in post earthquake reconnaissance trips to Kobe, Japan, Chile, Tohoku, Japan, Nepal, Mexico City, and Christchurch, New Zealand.

•Assisted with post earthquake response in Haiti and Christchurch.

•Coordinate and work with the NCSEA SEER Committee.

We welcome new members – the only pre-qualifications are a desire to help our communities following an earthquake or other disaster, a willingness to learn about how we as engineers can be involved as well as about emergency response.
