The Position:  As a Structural Engineer, you will provide structural design and analysis of floating and fixed marine structures, evaluate project sites to determine environmental loads, establish and maintain strong working relationships with clients, and interact directly with the production / manufacturing departments of Bellingham Marine to develop practical, high quality products and solutions for the marina industry. Successful candidates will be required to complete an administrative background screen as part of the onboarding process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate project sites for feasibility and to establish project design criteria.

  • Review project plans and specifications to verify stated criteria is consistent with actual site conditions.

  • Provide structural design and analysis.

  • Develop project timelines and work within project deadlines.

  • Provide ongoing monitoring of project progress and report progress to clients as agreed upon.

  • Work with other Bellingham Marine staff to maintain project continuity and integrity.

  • Prepare and submit written reports as needed.

  • Update job knowledge by tracking and understanding emerging structural engineering technologies and practices.

  • Maintain technical proficiency and participate in continuing education opportunities offered.

  • Other duties as assigned.

An immediate full-time position is open for a Senior Structural Engineer. This position currently resides in our Tahoe City office but could be based in our Auburn or Reno offices for the right individual. Candidates must be experienced in residential, commercial, and resort/hospitality structural engineering and design. A significant portion of our work is wood/timber framed construction throughout the Tahoe/Truckee area, which requires design for significant snow loads and high wind and seismic requirements. We are also seeing an increase in commercial projects as we grow outside the Tahoe Basin with projects throughout Northern California and Nevada. The structural department services projects initiated within JKAE, as well as structural-led projects from our broad client base, which includes private developers, outside architects, public agencies, contractors, and homeowners.


  • Provide structural engineering expertise on varying levels of projects.

  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously with minimal oversight, beginning with conceptual predesign and stewarding the project through construction.

  • Complete structural drawings and calculation packages for wide array of projects.

  • Coordination with clients, governing agencies, and contractors.

  • Conduct site visits and prepare field report documenting construction progress, conformance with approved structural drawings, and identifying any required remediation.

  • Work with local, state, and quasi-federal agency(s) to ensure project timelines are met.

  • Manage structural engineering team members including scheduling, mentorship, and provide QA/QC reviews of work

  • Monitor project budgets through project and review monthly client invoices


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required, Master’s degree in engineering a plus
