SEAW Southwest Chapter Scholarship

The Southwest Chapter of the Structural Engineers Association of Washington (SEAW-SW) is offering $2,000 scholarships to current college or university students studying Structural Engineering. We are hoping to encourage and support students who plan to make their professional career the practice of Structural Engineering, and, have a connection to the Southwest Chapter region of Washington State, specifically, Pierce, Thurston and South King Counties.

Applicant Requirements:

  • United States citizen and an official resident of the State of Washington. Scholarship applicants must be current or former resident of Southwest Washington area as described above.

  • At the time of application, be currently enrolled in a program of study majoring in Structural Engineering as an undergraduate in their final year of study, or as a graduate student.

  • Having a commitment to making a professional career in the practice of Structural Engineering.

How to Apply:

  1. Complete the application form and return to SEAW-SW at the address below:

  2. Arrange for the colleges and universities attended to send directly to SEAW at the above address a transcript showing courses taken and grades received. If your school uses an electronic transcript system, transcript links should be sent to apflueger@ahbl.com.

  3. Complete and return scholarship recommendation forms by two professors. They should be provided the electronic form to complete, print, and sign, and stamped envelopes addressed to Southwest SEAW at the above address. Scholarship Recommendation

  4. Complete and attach to your application a personal essay of about 500 words on one of the following subjects:

    1. Your favorite structural course and why

    2. A significant structural engineering accomplishment and why you’re proud or what you learned

    3. What is better in design – steel or concrete? Why?

  5. All documents must be submitted to SEAW-SW by February 28th to be considered for the scholarship.

How the Scholarship Award Recipient is selected:

From qualified students submitting applications, the Southwest SEAW selection committee will determine the scholarship award. Final decisions relating to all matters of eligibility and award of the scholarship rests solely with the Southwest SEAW selection committee.

Scholarship winners will be announced in April.
