Born in England, John Plimley lived in New Zealand, Australia, and Canada before settling in the United States, first in California and in Spokane beginning 1980. He worked for Bovay Engineering and for Integrus Architecture and Engineering.

John joined SEAW in 1979. In community service, he advocated for the mentally ill. His colleagues and friends admired his paintings: "Celebration of Creativity," an exhibit at Spokane's First Presbyterian Church February 2012, included John Plimley's work.
