General Code Requirements Committee

About the Committee

The GCRC is SEAW’s newest Committee and was created in February of 2025. The former SEAW Snow Load Committee was absorbed and became a part of the GCRC . The GCRC address all loads and code related issues that do not involve other SEAW Committees, including SEAW’s Earthquake Engineering, Wind Engineering, Existing Building, and Sustainable Design Committees. It is similar in function to NCSEA’s Code Advisory General Requirements Subcommittee

SEAW’s GCRC is currently involved in the following efforts:

  • Code Change Proposals to the Washington State Building Code and Washington State Residential Code for snow loads and flood loads in Washington State.
  • A Code Change Proposal to the 2027 IBC and ASCE 7-28 for guard loads in applicable assembly areas.
  • Updating the existing SEAW and SEAW/WABO White Papers on Snow Loads.

How to Get Involved:

  • All SEAW members, whatever their experience and background, are encouraged to participate in SEAW’s GCRC meetings. Please contact either of the WEC Co-chairs, Scott Douglas  or Herb Ahten to join and receive additional information and announcements on Committee meetings and activities. Meetings are typically the first or second Tuesday of the month at noon, as announced in the Equilibrium or on the SEAW website calendar.
